The genesis of a groundbreaking partnership
In July 2022, Grubhub strategically partnered with Amazon to deliver convenience and reliability in the food-ordering process. The Amazon Pay integration has streamlined Grubhub’s operations, allowing Prime members to use their saved payment methods quickly and securely for a frictionless customer experience. “The integration of Amazon Pay’s Saved Wallet significantly sped up our checkout process, adding a layer of trust that is essential in online transactions,” said Manas Gupta, Engineering Lead at Grubhub.
Navigating challenges in lockstep
When the partnership began, documentation for the Saved Wallet integration was still evolving. Through effective communication and teamwork, the Grubhub and Amazon Pay teams refined the documentation and navigated technical challenges to ensure an optimal customer experience. Claire Bick, Product Manager at Grubhub, praised the collaboration, saying, “The availability and responsiveness of the Amazon Pay team were incredible throughout the process.”
A surge in engagement and efficiency
The impact was immediate: within days, Grubhub experienced a rapid surge in orders from new Prime members taking advantage of the delivery benefit. This contributed to a 7.8% increase in the payment authorization rate over just six months — exceeding industry standards for e-commerce. Emma Cai, Director of Product Management, said, “Prime users are thrilled to easily add Grubhub delivery benefits to their membership at no extra cost.”
Charting a path to friction-free commerce
The partnership is poised for further innovations, including a move towards optimized processing with Stripe, further enhancing the checkout experience and expanding the scope of transactions.
Our partnership with Amazon Pay has transformed how we serve our customers, making every transaction smoother and more reliable.
