365Rider reduces transaction times by over 50% with Amazon Pay integration1

Discover how sports-gear retailer 365Rider curtailed cart abandonment and trimmed transaction times by incorporating Amazon Pay into their checkout flow.

The pursuit of an active lifestyle often begins with the right equipment—whether it’s comfortable running shoes, aerodynamic cycling gear, or high-performance swimwear. Founded in 2012, 365Rider offers top-tier sports gear to athletes all over the world. The retailer has grown from a single store located in Valencia, Spain, to a global ecommerce operation that serves customers across 50 countries.

“The unwavering support of our community, ranging from beginner athletes to seasoned pros, has been the driving force behind our journey,” says Carlos Marzán Medina, Chief Marketing Officer at 365Rider. “Together, we’ve grown and shaped what 365Rider stands for today.”

With their digital presence rapidly growing, particularly in Northern Europe, 365Rider looked to enhance the online shopping experience by providing payment options that customers would find both familiar and frictionless. In 2023, the retailer chose to incorporate Amazon Pay among their existing checkout solutions.

Building a global community of athletes

From their headquarters in Spain, 365Rider seeks to unite a community of athletes through the belief that sports transcend barriers. “Our mission has always been to encourage an active lifestyle through a diverse selection of quality items from well-known brands, catering to everyone from casual runners to professional swimmers,” says Marzán. “Our success led us to expand our business online in 2014.”

The retailer further expanded their reach across Europe in 2017 by entering key markets like France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Their online store is now available in 7 languages and accepts 14 different currencies, making 365Rider’s premium sports gear accessible to athletes around the globe.

As their customer base grew, the retailer knew that offering a wider range of payment options would accelerate their expansion by streamlining the transaction process, which would potentially reduce instances of cart abandonment and drive more sales. 365Rider saw Amazon Pay as an opportunity to upgrade the checkout experience with a payment solution that shoppers would immediately recognize and trust.

“We wanted to offer our customers a familiar and reliable payment option, especially for those already using Amazon,” says Marzán. “Just by seeing the Amazon logo, customers feel a sense of confidence and security.”

Integrating a trusted, convenient payment option

In September 2023, 365Rider integrated Amazon Pay Checkout v2 into PrestaShop, their ecommerce software host. The implementation was straightforward, requiring minimal technical work thanks to a prebuilt module that embedded Amazon Pay across the retailer’s website.

Shoppers have been quick to adopt Amazon Pay, with the checkout solution maintaining a cart share three percentage points higher than other payment methods. “In just over one year, Amazon Pay has grown to hold a 6.7% cart share,1 especially popular among our European customers, who appreciate its convenience and trust,” says Marzán. “We’re optimistic that this number will continue to rise as more customers discover the benefits of using Amazon Pay for a seamless shopping experience.”

Since implementing Amazon Pay, 365Rider has seen a 5.6% reduction in cart abandonment compared with their overall average,2 largely due to shoppers’ familiarity with the simple, secure payment method. The seamless transaction process offered by Amazon Pay helps customers move confidently from browsing to purchasing.

“Unlike standard credit cards or other digital wallets, the familiarity of the Amazon brand helps reduce hesitation at checkout, encouraging more customers to finalize their orders,” says Marzán. “Additionally, Amazon Pay streamlines the process by removing the need for customers to enter payment details, making the experience faster and more convenient.” 365Rider shoppers using Amazon Pay moved through checkout over 50% faster than those relying on other payment methods,1 reducing their average transaction time from more than two minutes to less than one.

Optimizing the customer experience with innovative features

Building on the success of this integration, 365Rider plans to expand their use of Amazon Pay as they continue to enhance the ecommerce experience through other projects, including website redesign, logistics improvements, and mobile app development. They’ve also begun to experiment with placing Amazon Pay buttons directly on product pages, allowing shoppers to purchase items immediately without navigating to a separate checkout page.

Our goal is to continue growing and make our products accessible to athletes worldwide, all while providing the convenience and reliability of Amazon Pay. Amazon’s global reputation adds an extra layer of confidence for our customers, helping them feel more secure when completing their purchases.
