More ways to honor our service members this Veterans Day

Honor those who have served by making a donation with Alexa.

Every November 11, we honor those who have served the country in war and in peace, but it wasn’t always that way.

Veterans Day evolved out of Armistice Day, which celebrated the unofficial end of hostilities in World War I – on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month of 1918. As the “war to end all wars” sadly became supplanted by further conflicts, November 11 grew into a day where we celebrate the sacrifice and bravery of everyone who has served.

The manner in which we celebrate and support our veterans has changed over the years as well. While we still hold parades through the downtowns of cities big and small, we also better appreciate the toll that active service can have on those who return home from battle, whether it’s PTSD, long-term disabilities, or isolation. That means charitable giving and support is more important than ever this Veterans Day.

Now there’s a new way you can show your support for our service members – by using Alexa to donate money to organizations that help support veterans. Donors with an Alexa-enabled device can simply say, “Alexa, make a donation to ,” and they’ll be able to easily use their Amazon Pay account to donate to any one of many great organizations.

These organizations support veterans in an assortment of avenues. For example, Team Rubicon serves communities by mobilizing veterans to continue their service by helping other people prepare, respond, and recover from disasters.

Another organization, the Semper Fi Fund provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to post 9/11 combat wounded, critically ill and catastrophically injured service members. Lastly, the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation (WWIA) is a public charity that supports veterans who have been awarded the Purple Heart. WWIA organizes a host of different outdoor activities for these heroes, to promote healing through camaraderie and therapeutic recreational activities.

“This is truly a life-changing experience you guys afforded me,” one veteran explained, “and the opportunity to come back together with my brothers-in-arms. Allowing me to once again feel that missing bond.”

Simply using the power of your voice, you can have an enormous impact on the lives of our veterans. You could start by saying “Alexa, make a donation to Semper Fi Fund,” and you’ll help honor the sacrifice and bravery of all our service members.
