In this month’s profile we hear more about the career of a Consumer Marketing Specialist, who started his Amazon journey with an internship in Luxembourg, followed by a second one in Paris, and landed his current role in Milan. After three roles, countries and offices, he tells us what he enjoys the most of Amazon’s culture.
How would you describe yourself in 2-4 sentences?
I love adventure and I am always seeking new challenges. I’m passionate about travelling and exploring different cultures – so far I have lived in 5 different countries and loved to get to know the locals.
When did you join Amazon, what’s your position, and how would you describe your role?
I joined Amazon and Amazon Pay in Luxemburg in June 2018 as an intern in the B2B Marketing Team, looking after France, Italy and Spain. After 6 months and a great experience, I resumed my studies and joined back for a second internship in May 2019. This time the position was based in Paris and included wider responsibilities, like organising events and marketing campaigns with key partners. As Italians say “there is never two without three”, so in December 2019 I started my new position as Consumer Marketing Specialist for EU, this time based in Milan, my third office. Some colleagues have started calling me boomerang!
After 1 year at Amazon, what do you enjoy about the culture?
The incredible thing for me about Amazon’s culture are the equal opportunities and consideration that everyone has at any level of the organisation. If you are managing a project, everyone in your team will rely on you.
What is your favourite leadership principle and why?
My favourite leadership principle is “Learn and be curious”. There is so much to learn in Amazon – everyone has had incredible experiences and has so much to share both from a personal and a business points of view.
What is one of the reasons you enjoy working at Amazon Pay?
I have always hoped to work in a startup environment within a big company and Amazon Pay is exactly this. We are less than 300 globally and everyone is able to bring ideas to the table and if they are good enough, the team may invest in them.
How does Amazon support your career goals?
Amazon and Amazon Pay not only have supported my goals... they helped me to kick-start my career. At the end of my first internship in Luxembourg, I was invited to come back for a second one in Paris, where I was completing the final two semesters of my Master’s degree. During my first internship my manager Pauline gave me the opportunity to lead Amazon Pay’s participation in two of the most important trade shows in France and Italy (Netcom and Paris Retail Week). Also, when finishing my studies, the Head of Amazon Pay Spain offered guidance support for my Master’s dissertation on “Voice Assistants: Insights on Adoption And Voice Commerce in Europe”. Now I’m here with a brand new role as part of the Consumer Marketing team for EU.
Is there a “perk” to your job that might surprise people?
The real perk for me is the work/life balance that you can achieve. The possibility of working from your own home or from different offices around the world is priceless. I have friends all over Europe so on occasions this may mean I am able to take a flight from London on Friday morning, sync with my colleagues in the office during the day and meet my friends after work for a catch-up.
