Login and Pay with Amazon: Sharing location-based information with merchants

If your device has features that provide information about your location, Amazon may use the location data to support your in-store experience at merchants who use Login with Amazon or Pay with Amazon ("participating merchants"). For example, when you are at a participating merchant location, Amazon may notify the merchant so that you can receive a personalized shopping experience. Also, you may be able to securely pay for your purchases at that location using your Amazon account without having to swipe a credit card or take out your device. Participating merchants' use and retention of the location data shared with them is subject to their terms and practices, including their privacy policies. Amazon’s use and retention of the location data is governed by our privacy notices available at Amazon.com Privacy Notice and Amazon Payments Privacy Notice.

We know that you care how information about you is used and shared, and we appreciate your trust that we will do so carefully and sensibly. You can contact Amazon Customer Service if you have any questions. Commonly asked questions include:

How does my device know my location?

Depending on your device, cellular signals, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and other technology may be used to determine your location.

What information, in addition to my location, will Amazon provide to participating merchants?

We will also share with participating merchants the additional information you authorized us to share with them. Examples include your name, email address, and shipping address. You can visit Amazon.com at any time to see which merchants you have authorized and the kind of information you authorized us to share (go to Amazon.com and navigate to Your Account > Settings > Manage Login with Amazon).

How can I revoke my permission to share information with participating merchants?

You can revoke permissions by following these easy steps:

  1. Visit Amazon.com and sign in with your account.
  2. Once signed-in, go to Settings under Your Account and click Manage Login with Amazon.
  3. Within Manage Login with Amazon, you will see a list of all of the merchants that you authorized and the information that you authorized us to share with them. Select the merchants you want to revoke permissions for, and then click the Remove button.

Will you share my location data with all merchants that use Login with Amazon or Pay with Amazon?

No. We do not automatically share your location data with all participating merchants. We know you care about how your information is shared so we only provide the location data to the specific participating merchants you authorize. You can visit Amazon.com at any time to see which merchants you have authorized (go to Amazon.com and navigate to Your Account > Settings > Manage Login with Amazon).

Does this mean participating merchants can follow and track me everywhere I go?

We do not give participating merchants the ability to continuously track your location. To enable in-store experiences, we provide your location data to participating merchants you have authorized when you are within the vicinity of that merchant’s location(s). You can turn off authorization for any specific participating merchant(s) at any time by following the steps described above.

What else?

You should review the participating merchant’s terms, including their privacy policy, carefully. While we will only share limited location data, we know you consider it important data, and you should only provide authorizations for merchants you trust.
