Amazon Pay: 2018 Year in Review

Around this time every year, the last 12 months can feel like a blur. 2018 was a big year for Amazon Pay, so we want to share some of the moments that made it special. We couldn’t possibly capture all of the highlights from the year in a single post, but read on for some of the exciting things we shared in 2018.
Q1 – Alexa and beyond
Amazon Pay with Alexa made its debut in 2018. We learned to build services on a new channel with associated technologies such as buying tickets using just your voice. We participated in a number of industry events including National Retail Federation 2018, the EU Summit, and a Women in Payments panel, to name a few.

Q2 – Voice as a new frontier
In April, we started to gain momentum, debuting Amazon Pay as part of Magento’s core bundle during Magento Live. Voice commerce took a front seat at Money 20/20 EU in Amsterdam where Amazon Pay spoke to Virgin Trains about the release of its Alexa Skill, so customers can book and pay for train tickets with their voice. And parking got simpler, too. We joined ParkWhiz at our New York Merchant Summit to hear about their plans to collaborate with Amazon Pay, addressing the $100B parking market.

Q3 – The Amazon Pay advantage
During the summer, we rolled out special Prime Day deals on select merchant sites all over the world, experienced a flash mob at our annual picnic, and got into the holiday spirit early. Amazon Pay participated in an essential webinar and a Merchant Summit on how merchants can help reduce fraud to deliver a seamless holiday shopping experience for customers. Read more:

Q4 – Getting ready for the holidays
Amazon Pay continued its busy schedule in the final months of the year. We discussed the power of voice and commerce at Money 2020 in Las Vegas, spoke about connected commerce at the Payment Summit in Hamburg, released a checkout optimization report in collaboration with the Baymard Institute, and kicked off our Season of Giving efforts, promoting charities as a way to #Payitforward.
2018 was an incredible year, and 2019 promises to be equally as memorable. From all of us at Amazon Pay, we wish you warmth and cheer as you move into the New Year.
